HIV/AIDS SERVICES

 

COMPREHENSIVE RISK COUNSELING AND SERVICES (CRCS)

Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services is a client-centered HIV prevention activity with the fundamental goal of promoting the adoption and maintenance of HIV risk-reduction behaviors by clients with multiple, complex problems and risk reduction needs.  CRCS provides client-centered, multiple-session HIV risk-reduction counseling to help individuals initiate and maintain behavior change to prevent the acquisition or spreading of HIV while addressing competing needs which may make HIV prevention a lower priority.


HIV COUNSELING AND TESTING

Confidential HIV antibody counseling and testing is offered by the staff of Guiding Right, Inc.  These services can be provided in the office or off-site at correctional facilities, universities/colleges, drug/alcohol recovery centers, or other designated locations.  The staff at Guiding Right, Inc. is trained by the Oklahoma State Department of Health HIV/STD Service to conduct HIV antibody testing and counseling.  Guiding Right, Inc. also has CDC trained counselors who can administer the OraQuick Rapid HIV-1 Antibody Test, results are available  (20-40 min.). Guiding Right, Inc. also has CDC trained counselors who can administer Rapid HIV Antibody Testing. Clients can receive results in 20 minutes or less.


OUTREACH SERVICES/HEALTH EDUCATION AND RISK REDUCTION

This program encourages prevention, HIV counseling and testing, and access to other services clients may need.  The outreach services are provided in high-risk areas and venues where risky behaviors have been known to take place.  Our outreach intervention attempts to train and counsel those encountered in both social and street settings.  Our goal is to inform and educate regarding risk reduction practices for HIV prevention.  Culturally sensitive HIV prevention information and material are also distributed.


PILLOW TALK  

Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer sex is a single-session (45 min.), video-based HIV/STD prevention workshop designed to encourage proper latex condom use and improve condom negotiation skills among African American men and women.  At the end of the single, 45-minute session, participants are given samples of the types of condoms they have identified as best meeting their needs.


AFFIRMING A FUTURE WITH HOPE

This is a faith-based HIV and substance use prevention curriculum with a comprehensive instructional program that emphasizes a personal relationship with God and addresses issues of HIV prevention through the use of faith-based narratives, spiritual principles, and individual experience.  Affirming a Future With Hope is an HIV & Substance Use Prevention curriculum with an emphasis in African American communities.


 BETWEEN BROTHERS

Between Brothers is a group level STD/HIV prevention intervention for gay/bisexual men of color.  The intervention addresses behavioral influencing factors specific to gay/bisexual men of color, including cultural/social norms, sexual relationship dynamics, and social influences of racism and homophobia.


THE SISTA PROJECT

The SISTA PROJECT (Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS) is a peer-led program designed to prevent HIV/AIDS/STD infection among African American young adult women.  The SISTA PROJECT consists of a total of ten hours (condensed into mini-sessions) that will give participants knowledge, skills, and pride to actively protect them from becoming infected with the AIDS virus.


LIVE LONG & POSITIVE

A peer-led support group for women of color infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.  The purpose of the support group is to bring women of color living with HIV/AIDS together in a safe environment to talk openly about the challenges they face and learn skills to make informed decisions and choices without the stigma and discrimination that is often associated with this disease.


HIV INFORMATION AND EDUCATION

Staff are available to provide HIV/AIDS and other STD prevention/workshops to schools, universities, colleges, faith based groups, fraternities/sororities and social groups.


SYPHILIS SCREENING

Syphilis outreach screening is another HIV/STD prevention program.  Syphilis screening is offered by phlebotomy trained Disease Intervention Specialists.  These services can be offered in the office or off site at correctional facilities, homeless shelters, drug/alcohol recovery centers and street outreach venues. 


OUT-OF-CARE OUTREACH AND REFERRAL SERVICES

This program is designed to improve HIV infected minority client-level health outcomes by documenting increased participation in the HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP) and increased participation in primary care, specifically at the Ryan White Title III Infectious Disease Institute and in behavioral health services.


 

HOUSING OPPORTUNITES FOR PERSONS WITH AIDS (HOPWA)

      Everyday in Oklahoma City, over 2,600 people experience homelessness.  The needs of the homeless population and especially those living with HIV/AIDS are numerous.  The HOPWA program is designed to offer Supportive Services focusing on employment opportunities.  Clients who are able to obtain and maintain employment will have increased earnings and financial stability, thereby improving self-sufficiency and housing stability.  Additional, referrals are made to other appropriate supportive services programs.
